In an effort to photograph more couples and to keep things simple, Purely Chic is now changing to Esther Mathieu Photography. Don’t worry, this won’t change anything for existing clients!
I finally have the pleasure to blog Nat & Mary’s wedding. We are so honored that they made us part of their intimate wedding at The Rudder on Rocky Neck and for a beautiful first look and portraits on Good Harbor beach in Gloucester, which looks beautiful in October with all the milkweed popping up by the boardwalk.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs, we loved getting to know you!

I’m trying really hard not to romanticize the hard work of a flower farmer, but waking up at the crack of dawn to photograph Melissa of Aster B.‘s place of work may have had us daydreaming of buying a farm. Then we remembered we’d have to wake up that early on a daily basis – scratch that.
I (Esther) first met Melissa at a farmer’s market when she had just started out, and I have wanted to visit ever since because I just knew it was gonna live up to my expectations – and it sure did.
Just like us, Melissa is a lover of all things DIY and simple. She has built a market of conscious brides looking to purchase in-season, local flowers who often create their own florals and bouquets for their wedding day.
But we know she has also caught the eye of more and more designers who come to her for the freshest flowers.
Aster B. also offers a CSA (yes, a flower CSA. What better gift could that be to yourself or a family member? Or even as a wedding present!) that we have been dying to get for our studio.

The threats of a “tropical storm” worried us the day before Julie & Liam’s wedding. We can shoot in any weather, but always hope for a sunny day for our couples. We are New Englanders, so the weather didn’t scare us much. Luckily for us, we were greeted with the most beautiful day just in time for their special day.
Julie comes from a family of creative women. So many parts of her wedding told that story during the day. The bridesmaids creating their own wildflowers bouquets as they were getting ready, the beautiful floral crowns, the handmade details. But the moment Julie put on the gown her mother had created with her own hands, it was so emotional to see it all come together before our eyes.
Liam was just as relaxed as can be, which testifies to his charming, spontaneous and laid-back personality.
The flower girls were star struck as Julie made her appearance outside of her family home.Only them could make popping champagne look so good. When we had our initial consultation and Julie told us all about Liam, she had that same look in her eyes as she described his dance moves and personality. She just adores him.
We are so honored to have been part of your special day!
Jocelyn is everything anyone would want their baker to be; charming, smart and extremely talented. She had us at cake, but we quickly found out her skills don’t stop there – cupcakes, meringues, macarons (yes!) and any specialty confection, like canelés, are part of her repertoire. What are canelés? Let’s just say they are a little piece of custardy heaven on earth that we are now craving and wishing we had more of.
